This was a beautiful excursion we did in the village El Limon, while visiting neighbor town of Las Terrenas. I chose it because it meant supporting and improving the lives of the Families of El Limón. As described in the AirBnB experience, the profit is for the families and to improve children’s education.
Here’s the link to the AirBnB experience. I’m not paid for this link. AirBnB removed their affiliate program long ago. I’m adding it here in case anyone reading decides to go to Las Terrenas and wants to do this beautiful excursion while helping women make a living:
It’s described as a beginner’s hike and I guess it is but I was dying. Which just means I’m super out of shape. Not news to me. We had to stop a few times along the way. I chose the walking option instead of the horse backride. I feel bad for the horsies. They go on these rocks and uneven terrain carrying people. Looks painful to me.
We stopped at the smaller waterfall and then went on to the larger one. It was beautiful. Lots of locals and foreigners alike. This route is a more scenery one. You can get to the falls from another entrance without doing such a long hike. It took an hour to get there and we first arrived at a little restaurant serving pina coladas in carved pineapples. A man also sells beautiful jewelry there. We bought some. I got a set of necklace, bracelet and ring that I’ve been wearing since.
After swimming in the beautiful blue waters of the waterfalls for about an hour (yes! blue waters in a river!) they had a wonderful meal prepared for us. Jovan’s and Yairi’s favorite dish: rice, beans and chicken and salad. The beans and the chicken were amazing. They also gave us pineapple juice I think. Or it could’ve been passion fruit. My memory fails me.
If you’re in Las Terrenas or EL Limon in Samana, Dominican Republic, I highly recommend you do this excursion with friends and/or family. I love sight seeing, enjoying nature, while also getting the benefits of exercise and all while supporting the local community of the land we’re visiting. It doesn’t get better than that.
Love it!
