los haitises and cayo levantado tour, Samana, tour from Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

take off after a 45-minute drive from Las Terrenas to Samana

I was a little annoyed at how much this tour was per person but as soon as it started I changed my mind and thought it was well worth it. In fact, it turned out to be one of the best activities we did the month we were in Las Terrenas. I didn’t go with the purpose of being a tourist and spend my money in all the touristic tours but we needed to do at least one that was tailored to the resort tourists. We had only done the local AirBnB experiences in Las Terrenas: the transparent kayaking, the ecobike tour, and we ended up canceling the sailing tour because of no wind for a few days in a row.

After you visit different countries you start seeing the same things over and over again for tourists: ziplining, hiking, boat tours, etc. Although, when they’re specific to the area and it’s something you wouldn’t see otherwise, it’s definitely worth it.

Jovan and I were picked up at 8:30am on the side of the street right off where we were staying. We were on the way much farther than the resorts and a family or two were already in the van coming from resorts.

The drive was 45 minutes. Jovan slept all the way there. We arrived and after paying we boarded about 30 later. They were giving rum and coke or rum and sprite the whole way. They put on good latin music and the way there was 50 minutes of ocean heaven.

Once again I burned my face. I forgot one of my hats so I’m super dark again. Not as bad as when I was in Jamaica but noticeably dark.

We went to this preserved area with lots of pelicans. It was beautiful to watch and by the way some stared I wondered if they watched us the way we watch them.

We then stopped at two different stops to see the caves with taino hieroglyphics.

arriving at cayo levantado

We then arrived at our last stop which was cayo levantado. This little island was gorgeous. At this point they’d provided three servings of rum and coke so was feeling nice but was starving. The lunch was delicious and satisfying. I bought a huge seashell. We were here 2 hours bathing in the water and relaxing. It was here that I turned like 4 darker shades of brown and my face was burning. Forgot my hat!

They dropped us off just in time for dinner time at almost 6pm. It was a long day but we didn’t feel it. It was a whole lot of fun and one of the best memories I have so far with my baby Jovan.
